Indigenous Community Volunteers
Indigenous Community Volunteers (ICV) is a not-for-profit organisation that works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders – not for them or on them. They utilise funds from government grants and donations to operate projects in indigenous communities across Australia. Importantly, the projects are suggested by the communities rather than imposed upon them. ICV support them to scope the projects and then match volunteers, from their database.
Aboriginal and Torres strait Islanders, want to be recognized for who they are: distinct groups with their own unique cultures. Indigenous communities want to enjoy and pass on to their children their histories, languages, traditions, modes of internal governance, spiritual practices, and all else that makes them who they are.
ICV gives volunteers the chance to live and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to learn first-hand about their issues and culture. ICV is reconciliation in action.
